Wayne McKnight, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s vice president of global procurement-food, has decided to leave his position and return to his roots in Canada in early 2008. Mr. McKnight, a 32-year veteran of the produce industry, told The Produce News Dec. 4 that he "discussed [his] changing plans with the company back in early October and they asked if I would stay on until the end of their fiscal year, which this year would be February 1. So I will stay with the company until then. I am going to move back to the greater Toronto area in February and March. My family is there and my kids are in school

Life is beginning to return to normal at the Grower-Shipper Association of Central California's building in Salinas, CA, nearly five months after a fire forced tenants to find other working quarters. A July 18 fire destroyed the kitchen and damaged part of an adjacent small conference room. Power and water were restored to the building the day following the 10 p.m. fire, and disruption to the association's work was minimal. The damage to the small conference room largely came from firefighter efforts to stop the spread of the fire. There was no major structural or property damage to the rest
