Connecticut is known for its diversity in production from the ground to the Sound, and this holds true for the produce grown. Connecticut farmers cultivate about 7,000 acres of vegetables, melons, potatoes and sweet potatoes for a market value near $53 million. An additional 3,429 acres of fruit, including 1,917 acres of apples, are harvested with a total market value of $36.9 million.
